The time flew by that year. It couldn't go fast enough for Severus and
Sevina. Every second of the day - when they weren't baiting each other
and bickering over trivia - they animatedly discussed what they would do
at Hogwarts.
Then came the big blow.
"Severus! Sevina!
Dining room, NOW!" Their father's deep voice summoned them. They
dropped what they were doing and fled to the room to see him with an
expression they had never before encountered. It didn't bode well. He
looked from his son to his daughter and then to his wife.
"Your
mother has informed me that she wants a trial separation." His voice
was flat, low and devoid of emotion. Their mother was positively cowering
in the corner. Sevina darted by her father and ran for her
mother.
"Pack what you need, Sevina. You will be going with your
mother to her sister's house overseas. To whit you shall NOT be attending
Hogwarts. I have made arrangements for you to further your schooling at
Beauxbatons." He glared at his daughter, who was shaking her head in both
disbelief and defiance, "It is my opinion that Beauxbatons is better for
schooling young ladies in both magic and etiquette. You leave tomorrow.
Severus ...?" Severus had been watching his mother and sister, but his head
snapped up to attention when addressed by his dad. "You will remain with me,
son. Nothing has changed for you. We will go to Diagon Alley tomorrow to
get your supplies for Hogwarts." With that said, he abruptly left the room
and headed for his office, banging the door so violently that an ornament
fell from the wallshelf.
Severus ran to the door with a mind to
reason with his father but then thought better of it. When Mr Snape had his
mind set it was easier to get blood out of a stone. There were certainly no
options regarding negotiation with the man. By now Sevina was openly
weeping, huddled in the corner with their mother. Severus joined them, a
look of total disbelief on his devastated face.
